Is My Webpage Title Important?

This is always the one on page element that needs to be discussed and address first. The <title> tag is perhaps the most important element in on page design. This tag will not only pass the most weight in your on page design choices, but is also universal in importance across all search engines, and will often be the title displayed to surfers when they see your search results.

These factors mean it will not only control you ranking, but will influence people to choose you when they click and buy.

Also important to note is the fact that duplicate page titles and poorly named pages can be an instant ticket to the back of the line or worse. Many scripts and site designs use the company name as a title on all pages of the site, to do this is careless. A recent client I reoqkred a site for had this issue and only 1 page was listed of his 10 page small business newsletter site. Once we had remedied this issue, not only did all pages get listed, but Yahoo instantly found worth in his site design to move him to page one for his keyword.

If you have a HTML, PHP or ASP site there is always a way to code your titles so they uniquely describe each page's content. This is the most important aspect of any page you own and should be done correctly from day 1.
