Borrowing Traffic And Keywords

Vanity can kill in seo and the webmaster world. Vanity and association with a keyword is a smart way to get traffic you never knew you wanted.

I have a recent client who reveived an industry newsletter regarding an advertising and marketing service whos dollar model is based on their high seearch results for industry terms.

They advertise many important terms that they are on page 1 of the search engine reults for to their clients and newsletter subscribers, and offer advertising on their landing pages.

Sounds good enough, until they realized they had awoken some giants who would love to have 'their" traffic.

They achieve this rank on being relevent and informative authority style websites, but they are not the only one, nor are they the best one.

My client has a more powerful and well saturated site and would love all of the newsletter subscribers to come over to our side.

We quickly took their keywords and hand wrote some nice information related to those industry needs and how my client deals with those needs. We gave prominent "todays latest" style links to it on our home page and made sure that they had a signup letter for our newsletter after reading what my client had to say.

Well so far about 500 visitors later, we are happy to say we would never had before for these particular terms we are quite pleased. We are now the top ranking and most relevent site for people in these niche keywords.

Now everytime this company sends another newsletter with the same bragging terms, we get more of their visitors as they check to see if its true.

A common smart way for webmasters to to this?

Write a review or summary of common books in your field featuring the title. Popular books are a common search in many fields and their titles will bring related and targeted visitors to your site as well.

The lesson learned is to see what terms competition uses to promote themselves, and what terms are major niche searches semi-related to your market, and be sure to offer your insight on a seperate page for those visitors.
