Cure Ad Blindness

Something that everyone should already know about theri contextual ads such as Yahoo and Google based adsense type programs. One thing you need to think about when placing ads and choosing layout design and color is ad blindness.

Ad blindness was originally used on the web when it was simply 'banner blindness'.

Meaning, if someone put up 10 million ads in a single month, after a while - you just ignore the banner as it was just part of the background. This background oversight should be avoided and worked around with new ways to keep eyes moving to your adspace. Most of the early banners were untargeted. Css images and lining up ads with images in the page to provide a highly level of blended ad is another popular technique. The key here is that the ad content really gives the appearence of contributing to the page content and becomes a part of the content in this way. Never mislead you guests but good practice is to blend the ads, and this is one of the common ways.
